Taylor Proffitt

Taylor Proffitt is a travel journalist, alliance builder, and community activist. He works from the back end of multiple networks and organizations so they can share resources as efficiently as possible. He also spends his time writing political pieces, gardening and place-making in urban environments, surfing, producing music, and learning contemporary political philosophy. He has patched together all his passions into a lifestyle centered around social and ecological activism. My personal mission To empower local community action through open source technologies, free education, community gardening, and the re-inhabiting of public commons. My most transformational travel experience Sitting in a Sweat Lodge at Tribal Alliance Retreat was especially transformational. The intensity of the style with which the sweat lodge was held burned a lot of my excess ego and gave me a greater appreciation for my personal struggles compared to the suffering that others will endure their entire lives. It allowed me to connect with my peers in the lodge more intimately. It was also a great body cleanse. It allowed me to appreciate the lessons of individual and global pain with deeper awareness and respect. My mantra Be the change you want to see in your local community right now.

Shayna Gladstone

Shayna is the creator of this blog, Cofounder of NuMundo, writer, singer, dancer, lyricist, event producer, facilitator, Dream Activator, digital marketing and crowdfunding consultant and life-long earth and community-steward. Mission While Shayna has manifested many of her own visions and dreams, her mission is to guide others in activating theirs. Through her experience and watching her peers dive fully into their purpose and unfolding all of the magnificence that life can be, she knows that we have infinite potential for what we can accomplish to transform the planet. Most transformational travel experience Taking 2 buses and 23 earth warriors on a 4 month permaculture adventure through Central America was not only my first independent travel (without parents) out of the country of my life but also the biggest growing experience of my life. For an abundance of reasons, my leadership skills were challenged to the core, forcing me to problem solve quickly, listen compassionately and most of all act and live in integrity with our highest collective vision. During this and my continued travels through South America, witnessing and immersing myself in indigenous culture brought me to great humility and appreciation for the deepness of wisdom I could feel simply through…

In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. I lived with a family who taught me that what you have is always enough and that true happiness comes from the love and support of people around you, and through connecting deeply with nature.  It was the most profound experience I have ever had: to live off of the fruits of the jungle, to drink from clean rivers, and to…

Simon Yugler

Fascinated with ancient cultures and global music from a young age, Simon Yugler is on a lifelong journey to bring people together through celebrating the wisdom and beauty of world cultures. With an academic background in anthropology and religion, Simon has found himself studying the didgeridoo with a tribe of Aboriginal Australians, living on the banks of the Southern Nile, traveling East Africa overland, participating in Zimbabwean ancestral ceremonies, and learning from indigenous shamans in Peru. He currently writes about transformational travel for his blog, Travel Alchemy, and when not abroad, can be found enjoying life in Oregon. Mission My mission is to facilitate initiatory transformation through cross-cultural experiences, and to live a life that inspires wonder and catalyzes change. I believe that in connecting with the diversity of human cultures, the beauty of the natural world, and with our deepest selves, lies the surest path to finding meaning in our lives. Most Transformational Travel Experience In 2009, fueled by an academic grant, I spent the summer traveling across Australia, finally settling in an Aboriginal community at the farthest reaches of the Northern Territory. On my final day on the continent, I caught up with my “uncle,” a local elder…

Lukas Sommer

I’m Lukas, a professional web developer and designer, travelling the world bartering my work for experiences. I am german but grew up in the sunny south of Portugal, blessed with a multilingual environment and a beach close to home, but moved to Berlin to work and study in my early twenties. I started to travel the world in late 2013 and offer my skills for a room for the night, travel expenses or anything good really. I barter with volunteer projects, eco villages, sustainable businesses or charity that very often need an online specialist and don’t have the funding to pay for an agency or professional. Mission I want to do what I’m good at as an exchange for what other people are good at or have, mostly no money involved. I want to travel, do good things for great people and get good things in return, hence my project name “Good Things Everywhere". Ultimately I want to provide respect, love and compassion to all beings and things around me, and try to contribute to a better world through my actions.  Most transformational travel experience With so many experiences that I could call transformational “the most transformational travel experience” is the sum…

She is the editor of this blog and head of International Communications with NuMundo.  She is connecting social impact projects and organizations around the world. Katia holds a Bachelor's in Social and Political Science and a Master's in Marketing and Market Research from Sciences Po Paris. My mission is to be a bridge and connect individuals to transformational experiences and impactful places around the globe.  I want to share the importance of connecting with nature and preserving and regenerating the Earth. Most Transformational Experience A month roaming the Kyrgyz steppe on a sidecar with only a backpack was life changing. Baigz

My name’s Baigz and I’m an intern at Sandhill Farm, an egalitarian community in northeast Missouri. I manage some of the crops here: winter squash, okra, blackberry, black raspberry, black currants, grapes, and some medicinal herbs while song and music spring forth from me. Biking as transportation is my norm. I identify as a queer male. Personal Mission My personal mission is to experience and explore the intersectionality of the intentional communities movement, social justice, sustainability, and spirituality. I’m working toward understanding how being born into a white, middle-class-dropout male identity feeds into systems of oppression so that I can disengage from those systems. My most transformational travel experience My most transformational travel experience was in 2014-2015 when I took a tour of intentional communities in Missouri  to experience alternative community in the midwest. Since my journey began, I’ve been transformed to become a more accountable human being. My first stop was Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, where I learned earthen plastering, cobbing, and earthworks and cared for about 70 chickens and ducks, a tribe of goats, and miniature donkey. My experience of off-grid living changed my life. Rolling prairies and their earthen village stand as a beacon of hope amongst a…

David Casey

David has spent much of the past five years in Central America organizing transformational and cultural events, retreats, and ecovillage design courses. He spent much of this time in Guatemala managing volunteers at a farm and working with an indigenous artisan cooperative. His experience and degree in Political Economy of Industrial Societies and Global Poverty from UC Berkeley are a foundation of inspiration for PNM. My personal mission To create and connect people to transformational experiences that inspire new passions and life directions. My most transformational travel experience My most transformational travel experience was my first visit to Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. I meant to visit for a couple days, but stayed over two weeks. Later I came back and stayed for 3 years. During my first visit, I took intensive Spanish lessons, while for the first time being immersed in an indigenous culture that was truly connected to their roots, ancestral practices and cultural traditions. They seemed content with a much lower “standard of living” than we are accustomed to in the West, and this showed me that material wealth is not the secret to happiness. I also met a number of expats from all around the world who had…
