About Me

Taylor Proffitt is a travel journalist, alliance builder, and community activist. He works from the back end of multiple networks and organizations so they can share resources as efficiently as possible. He also spends his time writing political pieces, gardening and place-making in urban environments, surfing, producing music, and learning contemporary political philosophy. He has patched together all his passions into a lifestyle centered around social and ecological activism.

My personal mission

To empower local community action through open source technologies, free education, community gardening, and the re-inhabiting of public commons.

My most transformational travel experience

Sitting in a Sweat Lodge at Tribal Alliance Retreat was especially transformational. The intensity of the style with which the sweat lodge was held burned a lot of my excess ego and gave me a greater appreciation for my personal struggles compared to the suffering that others will endure their entire lives. It allowed me to connect with my peers in the lodge more intimately. It was also a great body cleanse. It allowed me to appreciate the lessons of individual and global pain with deeper awareness and respect.

My mantra

Be the change you want to see in your local community right now.
